The key to upgrading your video card at this point lies what ports your motherboard has... If it has a PCI-E slot, then you can go as high as you'd like. If that's the case, then I'd shoot for anything that's rated as DirectX 10.0 compatable. Those of us that jumped at the 7800 GTX got royally shafted when we discovered DX10 would have a hole new set of features that our cards would not be able to take advantage of.

If you have an AGP slot instead of a PCI-E slot, then you'll have to be more selective. The upper range of video cards are almost all exclusively PCI-E, although as of about a year ago I believe you could still find a few higher range cards for AGP 8x...

Ascertaining whether you have AGP 8x or PCI-E is incredibly important before you make any decision on a video card, however. Once you figure that out, then you can move on to price range and feature set.

ATI makes the best graphics card to date, so anything by them will be good, i have an ATI X800GT. It's a pretty old model but it cost about 鎷?00 and it plays the latest games no problem.

If you have the model number of your motherboard, check to see what it can handle before buying a card. But it sounds like you should look for something in the 128 or 256 range, depending on your budget. I have an ATI card but I think NVidia GeForce cards are much better. Go on Yahoo Shopping and compare prices for stores offering them and the range MBs offered.

the nvidia bfg 7900 gtx. it has insane ram speed with insane processor speed. the ram speed it 1,650 ghz the and the proc clock speed is at 600 mghz. plus u have the power of sli which is proven technoligy that works. the ati crossfire is not proven to work that great. get two of these nvidia's in ur computer and u will be getting insane frame rates. btw upgrade ur power supply to at least 600 watts. recomended.

if u have a pci bus then get the nvidia geforce 7600 series or above .if ur purse isnt a problem then go for the nvidia 7950gtfx. if ur willin ta wait then u can wait for the ge force 8 series comin out with windows vista
